The Tsukumi city which is known as a domestic outstanding high quality limestone production center.
I am proud of amount of production (approximately 25 million tons a year) eminent Japan and am told that limestone of approximately 4 billion tons is buried more now.
Ancient coral reef or shellfish spend hundreds of millions of years and are piled up in the bottom of the sea, and the mountain where big crustal movement niyo rose is a mountain of the limestone. A blessing from this earth was discovered in the Edo era, and digging began. Thereafter it develops as a key industry of Tsukumi. Taking the opportunity of opening between Nippo Main Line Usuki - Saeki of 1916, production increased more drastically and greatly contributed to the development of modern times of Japan.
Particularly, a coastal line part keeps a near advantage alive from the digging spot and can carry the mined limestone in a belt conveyor to the cement factory group in the shore region. In addition, the arrival in port of the large ship might be possible, and City University limestone industry to represent Japan developed in this ground because a shore part was suddenly deepened from the topography peculiar to the Rias coast.
It was ranked the city to the name of a street called Sementomachi, and the limestone industry in the Tsukumi city affected a civic living deeply.
